Kayak fishing the Lone Star State...

By jfraymond
Well as anyone who has spent significant time reading build threads, DYI modifications and videos on the internet knows , at some point you have accumulated enough Ideas to the point your brain magically blends enough of them all together into a concept you know is probably terrible but at the same time curiosity gets the better of you to try it anyway....So here is my experimentation I've been playing with a few hours every weekend or two this summer.

its not a kayak but its roughly the size of my PA14... not sure what it is exactly but closet description I guess would be a low cost composite skin on foam microcruiser fishing sharpie.... or I guess more simply my redneck river yacht.

started cutting foam and bending

then did all the filleting filling and put on the a skin of what was used as fiberglass before the invention of fiberglass.

you soak a layer of it into the fabric every 10 mins until it stops absorbing and stays shiny.

Haha...yeah for sure.

anyway here are pics of my first test fit of the rudder and mast... have the stuff for a balanced Lug rig but figured WTH ill whip up a quick rigid wing sail in same method as I used for RC sailboats using foam as well. Gives better upwind performance with less area and provides buoyancy in a knock down.

that's where it is... next up is to make the cabin which will be a fold down inside gunwhales design so its out of the way until needed and finish out the rear cockpit with icechest/seat and rod holders for trolling. finish out the inside with seating, storage, electrical, ect and any other fitout stuff that still remains and then all the cosmetic stuff to make it Purdy after a weekend of seeing if everything is gonna work and standup to some ubuse.

been thinking of a way to use a aux pedal drive but its kind of hard with a single solid floor I don't wanna put a hole in... wonder if a fin drive would propel something this big decently?
