Cool Homemade Rudder Stuff

Post by Pogo »

This just in from Tommy Yonley, the current terror of the Texas paddle racing scene. Been paddling twenty years, finished the Safari for the first time fifteen years ago, and he's just thirty years old. One of the fabled "Derrick Kids". Here, he tells how he stuck an over stern rudder on his surfski, a project that's exceedingly similar to what I'm in the process of doing for a client in my "End Pour on a REAL Race boat" thread. Please see:

Rudders are easy to make, and great for fishing. Note: the examples I have referred to don't have the up-n-over capability, just flip-up to keep from tearing the rear end off the boat when you "find" stuff. Making a flip-all-the-way-over job is easy too, just use a commercial example as your go-by. Here's my wooden one from several years back, notice it's looking kind of old and haggard today. Also note that it's still on active duty. 8)
