New Boat Idea
New Boat Idea
Hey Gerald,
Ever since I saw your wood strippers at the races, you have inspired me to build a race boat. Well this concept didnt turn out to be a real race boat, but it has turned into my fishing boat, super stable and will carry a load. Pontoons are blueboard glued together, shaped and fiberglassed. Aluminum tubing for cross members. Virtually unsinkable. Any comments in the community?

I turns surprisingly well, 2" rocker in the pontoons. Thinking about intalling rudders.

Re: New Boat Idea
If you can, can you post a close up photo of the pontoons?

Heck yeah! I've got lots of comments and questions. Post more pictures. Post the build photos. This is a very interesting project. I've also had something like this kicking around in my head. Time and money keep me from doing all the projects I want. Let's see details! Can you tell I'm interested?
oh man...just think of the possibilities...

Re: New Boat Idea
Alright! Great report. I downloaded it and then read it. Good details. I think we'll see some more of this in the future. I agree with your assessment about drag from the twin hulls at higher speeds, but you've done a heck of a good job. I'm also eyeballin' something like this for a fishing boat. Don't forget to post a picture of your boat in the "Post your Boat" thread. That thread will always be at the top while these others tend to scroll away and get lost.
Oh man! Now I'm all excited about building one--and I've got too much to do already!
Weasle: By the way--I'm getting older, and more creaky, but I believe I'm ready to go back to the races--some selected races anyway. Can't win but I can have fun.

Zen,
For an Ocean boat, I would widen the boat a bit, maybe to 42" and build a center platform to stand on . Imagine it would be pretty stable. Best part is when relaxing you just put your feet in the water. Also easy mount and dismount.
Gerald,
Look forward to racing side by side again.

Re: New Boat Idea
The only pontoons I have dealt with were in a sailing configuration, and when you could get one stepped up on one hull they would fly, guess that goes back to the drag.

Re: New Boat Idea
Looks good, one of my ideas has this in mind as well.
Re: New Boat Idea
The boat weighs 48 lbs, I would imagine if vacuumed baged and not painted, one would be able to get it to mid 30's.
