can you use the "EB General Purpose Polyester Resin" in kayak building???
heres the details:
Non-spec, general purpose resin for repairs and construction. Color, curing times and workability can vary batch to batch.
NOT for use in any structural application.
Color: Dark Brown/Green
does the color mean how it will dry??? so it will be green???
for 1 Gallon its $24.95...sounds pretty good to me

Re: U.S. Comp. Polyester Resin
You can using poly to wet out the cloth. Ron should be along shortly to give his comments since he's done that in the past. Not sure about the fillets.
However, epoxy is superior to poly in adhesive and as a sealer. But it does cost more. I won't beat that dead horse.

Re: U.S. Comp. Polyester Resin
I used polyester from the early seventies up until 1985--possibly up to 1990 for some boats. At that time I made the switch to epoxy. Epoxy is superior in every respect. However--polyester worked, still works, will work in the future, and many fine boats have been built using polyester. Vinylester is a better alternative. Vinylester and polyester have the same working characteristics.

Re: U.S. Comp. Polyester Resin
4+4
I have built 10 boats ith polyester and had no problems,BUT it was a better grade than what you listed ,the grade I am using is up to 37.00 a gallon now. What you listed says not for structural appications, and the boat is structual dependent on the glass. Personaly I wouldnt use it.
When I first started building boats I could buy poly for 19.00 a gallon, now you can buy epoxy for 40.00 and poly is 37.00 for three bucks a gallon go with the epoxy, vinester is higher yet 43.00 a gallon.
My 2 cents worth
Ron
Filets work about the same ,the only thing I havent done is use graphite for a wear coat.

I didn't read your first post closely enough. I would say that what you are talking about is not acceptable. I would NOT use it.
