Trailer (Finished)

Post by DarrellS »

For those who have not seen it, here is what I started with.

I used it for a couple of months like this, but decided it was too top heavy.

I got outside last night and did alittle modifying. I think this will work alot better. I also built some storage boxs for paddle, PFD's and such. I still need to cut one more lid and install some area lighting and it will be finished.

Boy Howdy! You're really getting into this stuff! Nice trailer. Hope it works well for you. I know I'm eventually going to need another one. I didn't like it just for hauling 1 or 2 boats, but the future looks like I'm going to be hauling more than that a few times a year. Hauling kayaks is one of the evils of paddling...

Sure would be nice if I could take a capsule out of my pocket, toss it in the water, and a full size wood composite kayak blooms out. Might be a little soggy to put back in my pocket, but I can dream...can't I....

It's laying on the ground at the moment. It was just too heavy that high in the air.

That looks real nice. Contemplating on making a trailer myself. Is there a reason why you went with an angled drop in to rack the kayaks?? I think its safe to say I am only going to trailer 2 kayaks. Just noticed yesterday that 2 kayaks in a truck bed doesn't leave room for an ice chest.

I angled the braces to shorten the overall width. I wanted to keep everything inside the fenders. Two X-factors will fit side x side without extending outside of the fenders.

Thanks I probably would have overlooked that. I have a guy that does my welding for my landscape trailers so I can draw it he can build it.

Finished the trailer this afternoon. Added a couple of lights on the crossbar for those days when things run late. I was really suprised how much light they give off. Now i am going to try and clean up the Pirogue alittle for the get together. Don't know if I'll have timwe to finish it before Fri. It has quite afew battle scars from some hard hits on rocks (Thanks for the help Ron).

The battery will run the two lights about 20 hours.

I'm going to help Darrell test out his new trailer. He's going to bring one of my old boats down to the the Roundup at Inks Lake. I can only get two on my van. One's mine--the other is seashell's.
