Canoe Update - Maiden voyage planned for Inks Lake!

Post by Birke »

Well fellers, I've been working at a feverish pace to make the tub seaworthy by next Saturday, and I think I'm there. It is about 95% complete, or will be by this weekend. I will only have two coats of varnish inside and out (I'll put 5-6 on the outside eventually, the inside I'm not sure yet), and a few other minor things will still need to be done, like varnishing the seats, but other than that, she'll be ready. Here's a few pics!

Spencer in his new, unvarnished boat.....

First coat of varnish! Oooooh pretty!!! Daddy likes!

Here is a dizzying picture of the first coat of varnish on the deck. The boat was upside down so I just held the camera underneath and fired a shot. Yes, that's the garage door in the background...:)

Another picture of varnished schooner......

I'll stop by Academy and pick up a couple of cheap paddles to hold me over until I can make some. Now....what type, and how much beer do I need to bring for the christening.....:)

Unofficially, it's around 65 lbs. It will probably end up at 70 when all is said and done. I will get the "official" weight when it is completely finished
