Mayan Princess all to Myself
Where was everybody? The wind finally laid up for a while and I expected to find a crowd when I pulled up on the beach at daylight. Nope, it was just me ...so I turned on the GoPro to show everyone what was there. The weed is thick in areas, and I didn't get a single hit at any of the MP rigs, so I headed farther out to the two rigs in the distance. Two kings, a big shark that broke off during the sleigh ride, and 17 miles of lovely quiet paddling made for a nice day. The surf was nice enough to let me try a high speed run to shore and I made the most of it. Here you go!

Nice video, Glenn
Very surprise that you don’t get more bite than that. I would think the kings should be thick out there by now.
Thank you for the report.
Still waiting for a long good weather break to come down....

I thought the breakers were too much along with the wind. I'm looking to go the 10th-14th time frame. Looks good then. I'll see you out there!
Excellent video again Glenn! You drive that kayak like a speed demon with 17 miles and you look as though you don't even break a sweat!
Kings love them Halco's!

Nice looking yak Glenn....And you make it look so easy!
Re: Mayan Princess all to Myself
The lack of kings is due to global warming that started 2.5million years ago during the last ice age.

I would have given up early at the near rigs. Way to persevere to find fish! And that surf back to shore looked good fun!

Prof Salt;
What is a good paddle for exercise getting ready for the salt? What is your miles per hour paddle estimated?

Building up endurance is a good thing to do, but how much you need to do will depend on the distance you plan to paddle once you get beyond the breakers. The surf is one area you need to practice in to get used to getting through. If you can paddle five miles in the bay or on a lake you'll probably do okay offshore.
Speed is something I wouldn't worry about. I'm not "normal", and I paddle a fast kayak, so my average speed Sunday on a round trip across the bay was just over 4.5 mph, even with a 20 mph sustained breeze and a bay covered in whitecaps. I've been told that's not normal . If you can maintain a pace that is pretty comfortable then you can travel distance. If you start pushing too hard your performance, fun, and distance will all suffer. Take things at a pace you can maintain and you'll enjoy the trip.
