Pretty Great Day on the Water

I didn't care of the sound of the alarm going off at 3:30, but I got up and headed to Tod's house so we could head to the beach. We wanted snapper (I want every fish in the gulf, but I can't be too picky ) and we found a few. After having a camera mishap during the catch of both kings, I was in a bad mood and struggled for quite a while to catch my pink fish. On the way back I had a double knock-down of big jacks, and that put a smile back on my face.

soaking king fillets in buttermilk overnight makes them almost as white as any other fish.

That's true; soaking them in hot grease for 30 seconds until golden brown turns the meat white and firm too.

Very nice haul Glen!!! It's hard to believe that that skinny long kayak can hold all those fish and be so nimble in the waves! That is a great kayak!
How far did you have to go for those good size snapper?

Thanks. The kayak is pretty incredible for offshore - and I could have fit at least one more jack in there easily. The structure was only a couple of miles off the beach but today I feel like we paddled more than that. The current was moving and we constantly had to paddle after each drop just to stay near the structure.

Just spent the weekend getting skunked on PINS, back at work and see a report from Prof Salt cheesin with eight snappers.

I haven’t been down in over three years and planning on heading down this weekend.

The driving has been good most days on the way down. By the time we head North the traffic has chewed up the beach more and it's softer but still decent. Water has been semi-dirty with 5-7 ft visibility but the fish don't seem to mind.
