I did something a little different this time and walked through the steps of landing a cobia. Some is probably obvious and some may not be, but this is how I (so far) avoid injury with a tough customer..

I liked the idea to hit it to the bottom jaw. Gaff looked ok for this smaller one. Not sure if it will work as the first step for larger 50+ inches Cobia. It would have been a brutal show.

I've Gaffed 50, 53 and 55 inch cobia before hitting them. It's a wrestling match, but it can work well. Its not for the faint of heart, though.

I think the majority of those going offshore in kayak consider themseld to be ‘tough dudes’ rather than ‘faint of heart’ prof. Will see how it works from reports next few years..
