EXTREMELY EXCESSIVE Mosquitoes are the main crop these days. However I have caught a lot of ladyfish, one 24 inch red, one spanish mackerel, and a few small specs in the last week. All the lures I use seem to work on any given day. These catches are all shallow and around Rockport.

Thanks! I was looking at deeper waters like 45-60 feet deep around rigs and rocks.
Was curious with the breakers so low. Wondering if the fish are there.

I struck out at MP yesterday. Not a single run all day. Went to 4 different rigs and trolled ribbons and lures.

I wonder if the excessive rain had them shut down or if they already moved south? Maybe the wind direction as well? Curious what it was that shut them down so hard for future knowledge?

The rains may have messed with the bite for a while, but they have not headed south yet. The migration will start up pretty soon and it will be nuts for about a month as all the tiny fish head down, followed by predators of all sizes.

I'm hoping to go this weekend, but I'd like to hear some more reports before I take the trip.

Add some extra weight to your wire rigs. The fish are still around, but they were hanging really deep. Like 40-60 feet deep in 60 feet of water. Combine that with the current that's pushing North and it gets difficult to keep baits deep enough for the fish. I used 2 ounce weights, but 3 or 4 ounces might work better. I didn't troll much, but drifted with the curent past rigs to get fish. Also hooking to the rig to fish on bottom got me some fish other than kings and Spanish. Before you launch, you can catch more finger mullet than you want in the first and second guts.

Oh, and be ready for a workout. I only paddled 16 miles, but it felt like at least 20 with all the current. On the bright side there was no sign of red tide.

Video coming soon...
