What happened to the Viking Kayaks?

Post by Tagdog »

I have been wanting a Viking Profish Reload ever since they came out. I was aiming at later this year or early next to pull the trigger. I do not see them for sale anywhere. AKC has the 11' ones but their site says discontinued. I called someone at AKC and they knew nothing. I truly hope they did not go out of business. Has anyone heard anything about this?

They aren't out of business. There was some shifting when YakGear stopped being the importer and it went to Ryan Ford out of Rockport. Check the Viking Kayak owner's page on FB and he can help you out. Roy's stocks them, and I thought ACK had them too.

Great! Thanks! Do they live up to all the hype? The last two years have been slim for me as for as getting to the coast goes. but hoping that changes real soon.

Yes, I paddle the Reload. I use it in the flats, rivers, and offshore.

Unless you're prepared to drop some serious coin on a fiberglass offshore kayak, the Viking Reload is the best I've found for doing offshore (and everything else) very well. I did take a Stealth offshore several weeks ago and WOW. I didn't know kayaks could be that fast or responsive ...but with the design and rudder it would not work in the bays or rivers. It's a dedicated offshore boat that will run circles around anything else. Problem is that most of us would need a second boat to enjoy the flats or rivers.

So if you're looking for one kayak that can do everything well and still excels offshore, the Viking Reload is really tough to beat.

I talked to Ryan in Rockport. The new Vikings will be here soon. They will havw some standard features that were add ons. This will make them more affordable. ACK was bought out earlier this year by a company up north. This is probably why they did not know anthing when I called. I just have to scrape together the cash and sell my Ride.

Yes Viking Kayak are still coming into the US. No they aren't going away. There are even some new offerings; a TRULY fishing tandem(Tempo 2) and a TRULY hands free motorized option(Bixpy Motor Drive). The most recent shipment is being picked up from Houston and going to Roy's this Thursday, the next shipment will be here in August going to Florida. So despite what the rumors that some may want to spread, VIKINGS are here to stay.

Ryan: Suggestion to Viking Kayaks. The website gives no specs on the yaks. No length, no width, no weight, no load capacity, no freeboard height. Things important to a shopper. The yaks are very impressive, but shoppers want to know some details. We know they're getting re-organized for the stateside market, but it shouldn't be that hard to include a spec table. Good luck, and Thanks, TexasJim

Defiantly has the specs on all the kayaks... you just have to click on “specifications” when looking at the kayaks individually.

On each of the kayak pages there is a tab titled "specifications" . That tab brings up a table that lists those measurements with the exception of freeboard. Most Vikings are 12" in height.
