Look like Tuesday forecast has changed to higher wind.
All packed and ready to go. Hope the situation doesn’t get worse than Monday.

Got out today and conditions were good, 1 ft at the breakers at most. Good luck tomorrow.

Slightly change of plan at the last minute.
I won’t be launching at Mayan tomorrow.
But very interested in your report.
Please let us know how it goes, guys

I fished on Monday. There were 5 of us that went out. A couple of nice kings were caught.

Re: Myan Rigs 5/7-9
Monday was a nice day. 1' breakers, smooth water all around. Sunny day and wind to keep cool.
Like Sanantoniayak said, there were 5 out on Monday and 2 separate caught kings and a few spanish mackerel were caught. I got one hook up that came right off. Fished around the 1st rig for a couple of hours catching 14" red snapper, one after another. Each would not make the 15" keeper mark but it was still fun with the kings hard to find!
Went today and there were 9 kayaks out. Breakers were 1' and the swells were huge today. 4'-5' all the way out to rigs. Wind was blowing and that made the water move a lot.
But that meant the kings were in with the water moving well. Caught a 42" king, 1st for the day, at the standpipe next to big rig. Everyone else showed up and they started catching them. Someone had a school go by them and they got a double hook up! Lots of people catching today so I hope they post what they caught as well.
Ribbonfish was the best bait and lures second. I caught mine on a Halco Deep Diver in baitfish blue and silver....

All fish CPR.
Forgot to add, I stopped at the first rig on the way back in and caught 5 lane snapper in less than 30 minutes. Red snapper were still too small.

I'm glad this trip turned out so well for everyone. Early season is really tricky and requires some luck in the weather department. Y'all did good!

Re: Myan Rigs 5/7-9
Thanks Glen! The winds from the southwest made the swells 4'-5' and I think that brought the kings in closer because on Monday the seas were calm at the rigs.
I thought you might show up out there as well.

Re: Myan Rigs 5/7-9
I ended up catching a nice little 35” king on a yo Zuri red and white 15’ diver. Also caught a huge jack crevalle at the first rig as I was trolling by. Caught it on a ribbon fish and boy was it a nice long fight. Ended up popping the single strand 45lbs wire as I tried to pull it into the yak. Ended up with the main hook partially in my thumb because of it. I thought about gaffing it but figured I didn’t have enough room to keep it anywhere so my plan was just to release it after a few pics. Oh well Engleman got to witness it from a little distance away. He ended up hooking up to a king a bit bigger than mine, but lost it at the boat as he was grabbing his gaff. All in all it was a great day...

Re: Myan Rigs 5/7-9
Thanks for the report! Glad to know you found some good early-season conditions and caught some fish. FYI, kings and jacks come prepackaged with a landing handle...no gaff required. Simply swim them past your kayak and grab them just in front of the tail. The jack crevalle have a hard ridge along that part of the body that feels as though it might cut one's hand, but the ridge is more hard than sharp. I have not had a problem with cuts on bare hands or gloved from even large jacks.
Kickingback, those may be juvenile red snapper in your pics. Juvies have the similar spot and banding associated with lane snapper. I'm not the best at knowing the difference, but think the anal fin shape and number of soft dorsal spines are the most reliable indicators on the young snappers.
