Have the big fish gone South yet?

Post by Scrumptrelecent »

I'm heading to Matagorda this weekend and was curious if anyone was still catching kings or sharks offshore?

Sharks......yes
Kings........I doubt it. I think the cold front had pushed them further south.
But it is still depending of how far offshore you go too.
Good luck,

Full disclosure I took my PB out last weekend. I landed a 30# jack crevalle and I saw a shark just outside of the jetty so there is at least one still hanging around. He was swimming around at the surface and took off once I got close to him. We trolled to the first rig and didn't land anything else. We caught one big sand trout at the rig bouncing cut mullet off of the bottom. On the way back in I saw a nice size triple tail hanging under a small patch of grass. I tossed a couple of lures at him but he wasn't having it. I ended up running a swim bait right next to him and he got spooked and took off. The inshore bite was on fire. One spot we were landing redfish on every cast (most under slot but managed 3 keepers).
