Fall Bull Red Run Started

Post by bigfost »

Five fishermen fished the High Island area today and caught 52 bull reds plus a few sharks between 8 am and 1 pm.

Mullet was the bait of choice.

Were there any mullet in the surf? I still have my bait from last time but I may throw a cast net for extra.

You can buy big frozen mullet in Weenie and just cut in half and put each half on a hook. I found the heads held on the hook better for me. Both catch the same reds.

I soaked a fresh caught mullet in 3rds tonight for bout an hour before sunset. 2 runs but no takers. Pretty sure I saw a nice sized fin too... we'll try again soon!

Rigging was mullet chunks on a circle hook.

Depth was 13 to 16 feet.
