Conditions Offshore Today

Post by Prof. Salt »

I had to work during the middle of the day today, but I got to the beach by 4:15 and headed out. Surf was running 2' and was easy. Water near the surf is warm, running 88 degrees. A mile out the temps are 77-78 and it feels very cool to the touch ...but the super clear water from last week is gone, replaced by chalky green water. I only had 1.5 hours to fish because paddling solo in evening chop is not the time to try running the surf after dark. I managed one nice king just over 44" and jigging beside the rig produced lots of smaller stuff: bluefish, skipjacks, red snapper, lane snapper, blue runners and two moonfish. Coming back in the slop was easier than I anticipated once I located the truck that was sitting just below the setting sun, and I ran the surf with no issues. No diving birds or bait activity sighted, and my cobia drought continues this year.

Y'all get out there and find a few! :D
