Idea trolling from new Hobies

Post by Tombo »

Was watching TV and a Hobie rep was talking about trolling backwards with the new reversible drives. As I started thinking about it, makes sense of conditions warrant going backwards. You can watch the lines for strikes or manage your line spread easier. Just a thought.
Or just use the reverse on any propeller or Mirage drive to "hover" over structure or stand off of a rig without tying up.

The new reverse Mirage drives are definitely cool. I can see the hovering you described being the only real practical use for them. I have the previous model hobie outback and I use the mirage drive to hover (forwards) against current/wind at at rig when im knife jigging or under the causeway lights when Im night fishing. I tried using an anchor and I hated it so the hovering is a great substitute that doesnt tie you down. With respect to the trolling, I think Id rather keep trolling the old fashioned way. Nothing beats mirage drive for open water trolling unless your Prof Salt.
