Thursday, April 6, 2017 report

Post by spoon »

Two of us headed out to Galveston early AM .. the conditions were about as ice cream as you can ask for so we decided to go hit the south jetty. Catching some sand trout for bait, we arrived at the south jetty and started fishing about 9 AM. Water was 71 degrees, 1-2 fters, with about 10 mph wind coming from the North.. the wind died down around noon and the trip back we had barely any swells at all.

Sand trout was by far the bait of choice for the day, We had no hits on crabs and only several on nasty old mullet, and fresh caught sting ray. We hit two different spots and all we caught all day were Black tip sharks. A LOT! In total, we ended up with 25+ black tip sharks, and I managed one big Bull Red. One time we even had a quadruple hook up. I had two and my friend had two at the same time. Pretty awesome. Because I had thought we were going to catch BR and BU, I had not brought many wire rigs, so I was broken off 10 times or so as well. The highlight of the day was when I had a big black tip make 3 consecutive jumps, doing a complete 360 each time , before it finally broke me off. All you could do is laugh lol. We headed back around 5 pm as I had long passed my steadfast rule of 6 hours fishing maximum. We left them biting... Definitely the best trip I have had since the BR runs at Sea Rim park. If you go to Galveston, take wire rigs!!!

Glad you guys got out to enjoy the weather! Lots of sharks means lots of fighting and fun! Well done!
Did you guys launch on East beach or the small beach going to East beach?

Look like you should implement a new steadfast rule of a 6 hour fishing minimum if the fishing is going to be that great! lol

Awesome job and thx for the report. :)

Way to go Spoon! Nothing like a healthy dose of ice cream and sharks!
