Wheel Bearing Grease

Post by SWFinatic »

What do y'all prefer to use when it comes to wheel bearing grease for your kayak trailers? I do dip my kayak trailer in salt water when I use a boat ramp. Looking for a high quality grease that's proven to work. Heard Lucas Marine grease is good. Thoughts?

I use bearing buddy's and Quicksilver grease on my kayak and boat trailers. I don't dunk my kayak trailer, but obviously I do with my boat. I've had no issue with either products.

10-4 I think the main thing is use a marine grade grease. Thanks.

+1 on the Lucas Marine Grease. Grease is oil, thickened with calcium or lithium soap. The active, load-carrying ingredient in all greases is OIL. If seals were perfectly functional, we could use thin oil in everything. But, grease is necessary. For trailer bearings, I like a marine-grade calcium soap-based grease. It pays to buy really good seals, too. The cheap, Chinese seals are junk!
Check them often for seeping grease. Easier than a road-side repair. TexasJim

Phil's Waterproof Grease. AKA Phil's Bicycle Grease. For bushings or axle shafts.
For normal wheel bearing trailers I recommend any good waterproof grease designed for wheel Bearings.

Never heard of Phil's. It's pricey but looks good! I picked up some Lucas yesterday and flushed my bearings with it last night so I'm good for a while. Buddy bearings are definitely worth it.
