Lowrance SideScan.... Worth the Extra Cost?

Post by TxGulfCoast »

I’ve decided to upgrade the fish finder in my PA 14 so I’m in the process of researching the logical options. I do know I want a 7” screen and a Lowrance combo unit. From what little I know or at least have been told from people that own one is that Lowrance’s side scan (Tripleshot) transducer is that inshore it doesn’t really hold its weight but offshore it will pay off. I only fish in Galveston Bay complex, has anyone had any experience with side scan in G Bay or anything similar to it? If so would you recommend it or can I save a few pennies and go with the split shot transducer?

I have a Humminbird Helix 5 SI with my transducer over the side with a Scotty transducer arm. I get great readings off shore up to 150 feet out which is quite a bit in deep water. Mine works well. Worth the extra if you don't want to miss something 10 yards from you and you float right by that school 40 yards away....
