Swivel seat?

Post by Michael Meyer »

My wife is short of stature (5'1-1/2") and short legged. She drives a Ride 115 with an Air Pro 3 seat (high). Because of her build she is unable to swing her feet over the side of the kayak and sit side saddle. Is there a sit which swivels to the side that can be engineered to fit a Ride 115:

There are a few kayaks made now with swivel seats. I saw one in some video from the recent 2017 ICAST.

Well, that is actually a pretty common position and lots of large men will drop their butts down into the cockpit and hang their legs over the gunwale on one side or the other until the vessel sort of leans over a bit . . . but not too much. It sort of ends up looking like they are sitting in a hammock.

I think I see this more when someone is fishing in modest river currents.

One issue with swivel seats is that while many people can master standing in even fairly narrow kayaks, turning around often lurches them out of balance as their center of mass sort of swings away from the center line of the vessel.

Still, a small lady would be a great candidate for a swivel seat.
