Mirage 180
Mirage 180
Has anyone tested this new development by Hobie? What were your thoughts on it? If it is good, it will take away my one big hurdle to the Hobie Mirage drive.
Re: Mirage 180
My bro got a new PA with the 180. He let me try it out. Works great. Switching from forward to reverse is a little fiddly at first, but once you get used to it, operation is seamless. Reverse is awesome.
Re: Mirage 180
Just as quick in reverse too. Gets up and goes nicely. Go get one.

Re: Mirage 180
Are the Mirage 180 drives available as a stand alone product? I might be interested in purchasing a set (assuming they will fit my 2015 PA-14 and the price is reasonable).
Re: Mirage 180
That is a good question DY! When you find out please let us know.

Re: Mirage 180
I've been doing some searching but have gotten a big goose egg so far. Will post up when I find something.
Re: Mirage 180
Same thing here.
Re: Mirage 180
The mirage 180's fit older hobies. But I think they're like $700...
Edit: I also read somewhere they are supposed to be available as a stand alone product mid year, 2017.

Re: Mirage 180
Talked to the guys at ACK yesterday about the 180. They still say midspring at earliest and the current drive with turbo fins are going for 750 so expect the 180 to cost more.

I don't have an answer for you, but this is the place to ask Hobie questions:texnomad wrote:That is a good question DY! When you find out please let us know.

Re: Mirage 180
i recently bought a camo hobie outback with the 180 drive and finally took it out to lake woodlands to play with it. the reverse is awesome, and the only hiccup i had was making sure the fins are straight up and down before the pull switch will work. easy to figure out and took two times for me to get used to it. the major thing was that i thought my rudder was messed up, but it was because i didn't see the little cable lock on the rubber pocket to lock it into place. i did the pro angler hatch on it and it worked okay with the tackle management tray, but i also go the bucket and believe the bucket will win out. and forgot to add because i haven't had the new seat before it was a P.I.T.A. to put in for the first time (even after practicing in the garage). hopefully that gets better with time...
