DIY Wireless Power Anchor with 8ft Stake
Here's something I've been working on for a little while with the help of a buddy of mine. I don't have all the bugs worked out. It's a little louder than I'd like, and the drive wheels seem to be slipping on the fiberglass stakeout stick.
The good news is that it's mostly waterproof,(should survive a dunk, but not an extended stay underwater) CHEAP, and it actually works.(Including the stake out stick it cost about $100)
https://vimeo.com/181973806 <-- That's a video of it.
The base material is just a piece of an old cutting board. All the metal is aluminum or SS. Inside the box is simply a 12v cordless drill motor and battery with a 12v receiver and two relays.(forward and reverse) The drive system was a bit of a pain to make. Both drive wheels have to be moving the pole or it won't work. I was going to use gears, but settled on using two wheels pressing together as my "gears". Behind those "gear wheels" are my drive wheels. They are just smooth soft rubber wheels that sit together at a distance that squeezes the stake to provide traction. The 3/4" pvc is just a guide, and I'll be adding a small piece of 3/4" ID water hose as the squeegee on the bottom. The remote controls are two button car alarm style key fob. I'm going to waterproof them and put one on my lifejacket and make a lanyard for the other one.

Pretty darn nifty! I like it. You think that up all by yourself?
Great idea and so simple. How did you get it to remote control?

The Power-Pole Micro was the inspiration I would love to have one, but there's no way I could afford it on my budget.
The remote was the easy part. With this https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B00 ... UTF8&psc=1" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; you can make just about anything remote controlled.

Very nice, I've been wanting to make one too. This should be a good start.

I love this idea. I might just copy it for my kayak.

Seeing more and more power pole type rigs on kayaks. The gizmo junkie in me is getting super tempted. But then I realize with my history, I'd wind up getting stuck in it or drown or electrocute myself. But yours is the closest I've come to saying "I'm in!"

Very cool! How well does it penetrate the bottom?

Re: DIY Wireless Power Anchor with 8ft Stake
Thanks everyone, I need to get it finished and mounted. I was talking to a friend about being worried it'll be too loud and spook the reds. My primary reason for making this is so I can "stop on a dime" while sightcasting reds. He suggested I take it out unfinished and just push the button when I see a redfish and watch the reaction.
It puts a nice little hole in the soft ground while testing. I don't want it to go deep, that might make it hard to retract. The deeper it goes the more suction, but I'm not sure if that'll be an issue since it's only 3/4" OD.cargoshorts wrote:Very cool! How well does it penetrate the bottom?

Any update on how this has held up?
Re: DIY Wireless Power Anchor with 8ft Stake
Great looking anchor.
The Power-Pole Micro's come with a mounting that allows it to "break away" if you run out of battery or it quits for some other reason. You pull a release and it pivots forward. You might want to consider what you will do if your anchor quits.
