DIY Kayak and Gear Storage Rack
Been meaning to post this one for a while, but got caught up in tweaking it here and there.
I get tired of having to search around the garage for my stuff before a trip and wanted a place to keep it all together so loading and unloading would be much easier. Not just a kayak rack, but something for my rod/reels, paddles, coolers, tackle, etc etc. I don't like to store my gear outside, but needed something compact that didn't use up half the garage.
Part of my concept was something that I could put everything on after I cleaned up at the end of the trip and it could dry in place out in the sun. It needed to be mobile, so I could still use my garage for other stuff besides a storage unit.
I built this with stuff from Home Depot for under 100$. several 2x4, a leftover scrap of plywood, some casters, deck screws, shelving system, ladder hanging racks, broom hanging bar, and pegboard and hooks. Footprint is 4ft x 8ft, but obviously bigger depending on size of your kayak(s).
Now it takes me about 10 minutes to load up for a trip, and once I get home, I can have everything rinsed off and drying in about 20 minutes.
Enjoy...
Area where PFD is will accomodate waders in cooler weather...
Perfect for paddles and stakeout stick...
Surplus lures and tackle in case I can't make it to the store before a trip...
Ideal area to hang lures and let them dry so they don't rust out...
Lots of storage space...
I want to get an actual rod holder, but this works for now...

I like it, but I find Mayyaker has hinted towards my main concern...Matyyaker wrote:Does the yard have a garage sale sign stuck in it ? Nice set up though.
if my wife found out all my stuff were that easily rolled into the driveway - shed take a day off work, place a GS sign in the yard and work on her tan.

VERY nice, Travis. Your stringer may be empty, but I bet your tool box is chock full of stuff.

Did you say you're selling all this in a garage sale?? Garage sales are really so much trouble, let me just take all that junk off your hands and save you the hassle.
Very Nice setup!

Re: DIY Kayak and Gear Storage Rack
I am going to build one of these.
But then my wife will see all the stuff I normally keep hidden under the sofa, under the bed, in my closet, in the garage, on the patio, and around the living room.
Then I'll have to be all nice and sweet.
But I might get lucky.
So that's all good.

Re: DIY Kayak and Gear Storage Rack
That is a really nice organizer system.
I hope that you do not mind making this one suggestion: Put a peg at the end of where you are currently hanging the PFD, on the short side of the vertical 2x4. It will hang perpendicular to the plywood. Similar to the way you hang the net. Then, you will have the space to store your rods vertically.
Question: The topmost shelf being wire, are still able to work without having things dropping through?

MT, you need to market that product. GREAT JOB.
Re: DIY Kayak and Gear Storage Rack
This is such a good idea, and well executed.
Once I have a garage, I will definitely build one
