Re: diy/ i did this for under 100bucks
This is my rod floats I made from my wife's pool noodle. I'll be in trouble when it warms up and she figures it out. Oh well, just have to make a trip to Wal-Mart before summer.

Re: diy/ i did this for under 100bucks
all you need now is tie wraps for the foam?
Re: diy/ i did this for under 100bucks
very cool man
Re: diy/ i did this for under 100bucks
No tie wraps needed. If you don't cut the channel too wide, it fits snug. Also, the L shaped slit is to lock it in.txspeck wrote:all you need now is tie wraps for the foam?

When you pick up the rod, do you leave the float on, or is it only to be used while in the rod holder?
Re: diy/ i did this for under 100bucks
Just use it when in the rod holders. I take it off and just drop the float between my legs till I switch rods. The main function is so my rod will float if I flip or hang the spare rod while casting and yank it out of the rod holder. Unfortunately I learned this the hard way. I jerked a rod out and lost in Marine Creek Lake. I know I'm probably not the only one that's ever done that, but it still made me feel real stupid!MONSTER wrote:When you pick up the rod, do you leave the float on, or is it only to be used while in the rod holder?

What are the little balls on the short rope used for, and where is the best place to get wheels for the dolly?

Ahh, great idea with putting the tongue on the front of the kayak cart. I bet that helps it stay upright huh?
I think the balls are on shock cord. That is my guess at least.
By the way, those 8" wheels are on sale this month at Harbor Freight for $3.99 with coupon.

You should all probably check out http://www.palmettokayakfishing.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; and look at the blog. A lot of great ideas there.
Re: diy/ i did this for under 100bucks
you sir have changed my life lol so much cool stuff
Re: diy/ i did this for under 100bucks
Yes the balls are scupper plugs. I use the practice golf balls without dimples, they are firmer material. the pics for the anchor floats can be found by searching Anchor Management.the carts are a design made by tallpaul on a SC kayaking website. He posted some of the most detailed directions you will ever find anywhere.

Well, if you have an old trolling motor and a battery, you can add it to the back real easy. I since replaced the turnbuckle steering part with a longer piece of pvc that doesn't turn 90 degrees and bind up. Ropes to you feet steer it and an old oven switch works the rheostat for the speed.
I used a dremel to shorted the shaft...
Drilled a small hole next to me and marine gooped the rheostat up through it, then pushed on the oven knob for speed control..
Looks a little funky, but really hauls against the wind and tide..
