Stole this design idea from another member. Nicely holds all my gear and some camping supplies. Next up is figuring out some way to add rollers to enable easier unloading if I can ever sneak away without my sons and have to unload by myself.

Merry early Christmas! My wife and a friend drug this home for me for my yakin adventures.

It's ugly right now, but thanks to the forum, I see great potential!

Any suggestions for converting this old boat trailer?

This is my custom built kayak trailer. It has a 8' x 6' x 2' locking box with rod locker and enough room for all my gear and then some. It has enough room for 6 kayaks and a large front deck for strapping coolers down. I also added some fun goodies like a 6 speaker marine stereo system, 3 bottle openers, and a floodlight light on the back.

He had it custom built by Tops-n-Towers (I think) out of Corpus Christi. They're no longer around.

All I know is that is one of the coolest trailers I have seen. At least in my honest opinion.

Here is my super light yak hauler. I believe it's light enough to replace the yak cart altogether, I can just unhitch and walk it. I know I can't carry a cord of firewood on it but I almost never need to while fishing anyways.....
Image
I started with a frame I found on CL and upgraded to 12" wheels on the way home and the project was on.....

It'll hold three 7 footers comfortably.

And, the final touch... A TKF stamp to hold it all together. :D

Hector wrote:Thanks guys! I ended up drilling another hole and it worked out great. I will be adding more support, like welding,

If you plan to weld galvanized steel you NEED to be aware of the toxic fumes the galvanization will put off. Seriously those fume can be devastating. One way to avoid this is to grind the coating completely off down to base metal and be sure you include the heat affected zone (HAZ) of at least 1 inch farther than the toe of your weld. Also, besides the fumes if you don't remove the galvanization your weld will not be strong. It may hold up a fence or gate but will not last long with this stresses that will be on it while supporting a load that is "bouncing" down the road.

Here's mine , it's a stock Rack and Roll which is JUNK!! everything fell apart, shocks, wheel bearings, wiring, they used cheap hardware which rusted. I plan on getting a Sports Rig this spring it's USA made.
I'm going to try to lower the deck on the R&R so it will be about 1 foot off the ground, that will make loading easier without having to lift the kayak.

Here's mine. Still trying to figure out a way to store my fishing rods on the trailer. Thought about using PVC but not will take at least a 6" diameter to keep from having to pull off the reels. Metal trailer storage box is going on next to hold misc items and the kayak racks will be covered with pool noodles when they become available again in spring.
