I started with a used harbor freight boat trailer.

Stripped off the boat stuff, shot it with a couple rattle cans of dupli color bed coating and some new shoes.

Very nice, I had the same idea about the "trailer trunk". I picked up a Harbor Frieght kit and I'm still in the process of assembling.

Your pics help in visualizing how I may want to set it up.

Thanks!

Did you use 2x6s for the "trunk"?

I was still trying figuring out the locking mechanizm. Very simple solution you have there. Looks like I found the answer.

Very nice. I am in the process of building one now. I was trying to figure out if I wanted to do the "trunk" method and you have made up my mind.

The trunk is 8 feet long, 40 1/4 inches wide and 6" thick.
I'm not sure how tall the trailer is, tho the middle and rear 2x4s are 48" long. I'd guess close to 5 feet to the top carpeted yak bunks.

Yep, 2x6s. all the wood is treated. should last longer than the trailer. :)

The trunk door is locked via a pad lock and a 6" lag tread eyebolt. If the door gets lose/tight, it can be adjusted with a turn or two of the eyebolt.

Z~MAN,, I've been in the suds a time or two   , but at heart I'm still a surf-fishermen. love to sit on the beach in the shade with a coldone watchin the big rods.

Great Job! Do you plan to treat the lumber or was it treated already?

All the lumber and plywood on the yak trailer is treated. the new treated lumber (YELLOWOOD) looks like framing lumber.
