Rods?
Rods?
I'm looking for an inexpensive spinning rod for bay fishing. I have a Saharra 4000 and 2000 that I need better rods for, but don't have a lot of cash floating around to buy top of the line. Any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks.
Thanks.

I'd vote for the Falcon. I've used a couple of Falcons for years, and consider them the most durable rods I've ever owned. I've had a lot of different rods, and the Falcons are the only ones that didn't fail on me, despite the abuse I've put them thru...
G. Loomis? I have six. Every one of 'em has had a problem (broken ferrules, broken tips, broken handle, etc...)
Browning? Ferrule fell off...
Fenwick? SNAP! Broke in half.
All Star? Ferrule broke.
St. Croix? Broken tip (twice)
For a cheap rod, I've had pretty good luck with Bass Pro's Bionic Blade rods, but I just have to hit 'em with a little spray paint to hide the shiny logo sticker just above the handle that will glare in my eyes in bright sun.

The different colors make more of an impact on the fisherman than anything else... They say "Cajun Red" line disappears in the water, but then why do they promote red hooks that are supposed to attract fish? Hmmmmm....
Some guys like the green braid, some like the florescent mono, some like the smoke braid, some like the clear mono, etc, etc.. You'll hear more testimonials than there are types/colors of line. Everyone has their likes and dislikes, so buy small quantity spools, try several different lines/colors, and see which you like.
I've always been a "line watcher", so personally, I prefer the florescent clear Premium P-Line... I can see it above the water, and it's pretty translucent under... I've tried the green Power Pro braid, and I can't see it very well. Makes me a little uncomfortable when I can't see my line...
Happy experimenting!

American Rodsmith Genesis at Academy. Solid durable rod. Good action good weight, good balance. Nothing fancy. Typically $49.99. I use a 6'6" Medium action with a Shimano 2500 or a Shimano 4000 series reel.
One nice advantage, the reel seat screws down not up. The rod butt once the reel is in is about 1.5" shorter then the others.
