question about kayaking hanging out the back of pickup truck

Post by riverrat88 »

Have anyone had any trouble with law enforcement when using a truck bed extender or just having their kayaks hanging out over the back of their truck bed. I am looking at having a 13.5" kayaks hanging out the back of a 6ft truck bed myself. Any infor would be great.

Not a problem I do it all the time.
Just make sure you have a RED flag on the back.
And I got some reflective tape for the cross bar works great.
Be carefull after dark idiots on the road.

13.5" kayak should fit in your glovebox.....

Anyways, I've been carrying my 14ft Ride in the back of a short bed for a while and never had anyone look at it funny. I use an old red t-shirt for a flag. The only thing I worry about is some idiot not paying attention and running into it.

Yak out the back

I have posted several times about this, so here is a picture. Law requires a red flag 1ft x 1ft minimum on a load 3 or is it 4ft past the bed. I have a yellow yak 28" x 11' with DOT approved reflectors (for night) showing instead. I have never had a problem.
