New to popping cork

Post by jake100 »

never used these before I see these with about 18 inch leader with a snap clip on the end , does one just clip a hook to the snap and
go that seems like a lot of stuff there as opposed to just a hook tied to the leader

Check out some of the many internet videos on using a popping cork. There are lots of variations. I start with about 24 to 30 inches of leader from the cork tied directly to my lure. As I change lures, about once an hour if nothing is biting, the leader slowly gets down to about 14 inches before I replace it. That is just one of many good methods that work. For me, the ready made leaders are un needed expense.

Similar to Texnomad, I tie a flouro leader to the cork then a 1/16 jig below anywhere from about 20-25 inches below with some sort of plastic shrimp normally.
I caught nothing my first couple times and figured they were over-hyped. Now I count on it if the water is high. Depending on the cork, you may have to pop it harder than you thought necessary.
