Cheat Sheet on Fish Limits

Post by mike67 »

I'm 67 and have trouble remembering my grandchildren's names. So, getting into kayak fishing for the first time, and fishing in general after 50 years, I had to create a cheat sheet. Copied and pasted it eight times, printed it out, took it to a copy center to be laminated. Then cut it into eight chunks, punched a hole and will tie it to my kayak where I can refer to it if I ever catch a fish.

NOTE: Don't do this. See the discussion below. It's true that water wicks into the ink and smears it. I can't take the post down, so this is the best I can do, is wave you off.

That would work well for the grandchildren's names (with a little space for more), but when the limits change, I've got a problem.

Once you catch a few, you'll remember.
I started with just remembering 14, 15, 20. After catching a couple of each over a few trips out, it seemed to become obvious which number went with each species. Skip the tattoo, just use a sharpie on the forearm each trip.

hate to be negative, but.....

You need to laminate each card individually with a laminated boarder all the way around, then punch the hole in the lamination. As is water will wick up the paper at the hole and the cut edges, most printer ink is not water resistant.

Great idea though.

maskale - You are 100% right about that ... as I found. So I wrote the relevant info on my measuring stick, as suggested above. Live and learn, I guess. But thanks for the post so others don't make my mistake.

I took care of that in the first line. However, as this does wick water, and the measuring stick is a better way to go anyhow, I'm going to delete this post if I can in a few days; will leave it up for a bit so people can see my first method doesn't work.

Where I fish it's 10, and I made it for my situation. Obviously, it needs to be tweaked for your own situation. But again, it doesn't work anyway, so I'll delete the post if I can in a few days.

So, I can't delete the post. It lives on in infamy. I bury my head in sand.

I just got through PAINTING the size and catch limits on the floor of my canoe. Along with a painted ruler (tape and stick-on stuff just doesn't work). When those changes, another coat of primer and re-paint. Since everything I catch gets dumped on the floor while I detangle the net, my hook, and whatever else, it's easiest to just have it right there under my feet.

Has anyone tried laminating the cheat sheet after it's cut up? I don't think it will wick if it has clear plastic all the way around.

I took my hawg trough and wrote the limits on the back with a paint pen, when they change the laws, wipe it with some acetone or something and redo it.
