Kayak Transport

Post by Tomagus »

Another issue for kayaks is how to transport. This is mine.....
Husky ladder rack, bought from Home Depot for $99. The cross bars are adjustable with pool noodles for padding. the top section is removable. The only modification was that I cut off about 4 " off the post so it wouldn't sit so high, makes loading alot easier

If it is a bolt?

Post by JimD »

If the frame bolts together and you can get to the back cross bar then
could you put a bigger piece of pipe on the back bar so you can make a roller for the kayak to be able to roll the kayak up on the back to make it easier to load?

I have factory racks on my Expedition and I went to FTU and purchased some rack pads that attach by velcro. I carry my X-Factor upside down on the racks and straps across the yak at each rack. I have the stern and bow tied to both front and back and can insert a bike lock thru the scupper holes with a combination lock to lock it on the racks. That way I can load the night before and be ready to go when I get up in the morning.

I have a 06 tacoma truck with camper shell on the back, I have installed
yakima racks on the shell but max distance from front to rear
just under 5 feet . I have on order another set for the truck cab.

All of this for a Malibu II XL tandem. near 13 feet long. Ill take pics
and post here when I get it all installed and ready to go.
