Advice on small yaks

Post by deanmccarty »

I’m not new to kayaking... but I AM new to small yaks. I am looking to purchase a couple of small 9-10 foot yaks. I’m looking at the Malibu Mini-X, The OK Frenzy, and the Perception Access 9. I’m open to other suggestions and/or feedback. I know that none of these will track as well as my 14 footer... I’m looking for the best option for quick trips that I can just throw into the back of my truck.

Don't have experience with the Access, but I'd take the Mini X over the Frenzy. It tracks better and (due to its width) is roomier. The only negative thing I see about the Access is its 250 lbs weight capacity; something to consider depending on your build and amount of gear you carry.

Another option is the older WS Tarpon 100 aka Ex-Perception Pescador 10.0 (they have an updated model now) aka Magellan Origin 10. Probably the best tracking 10 foot kayak you could buy.
