Basic paddling strokes

Post by richg99 »

Nice, short article. Should help new yakkers. It is amazing how many of us started out just using our arms. No wonder we were so tired.

So true about the arms. My first yak was a Hobie with a Mirage drive. I sold it and got a Viking Profish Reload and had to learn to paddle for the first time. At first my arms would be sore the day after paddling. Then, I came across some great videos that explained how to paddle properly and what I had been doing wrong that caused my sore arms.

This one was my eureka video: https://youtu.be/XCyikqdIhmY. It's an older video but he demonstrates and explains the basic forward stroke really well. It's made all the difference in the world for me.
