yak re-entry

Post by elm_tx »

With the summer heat, my buddy and I decided we would rather wade fish for a while yesterday once we got to the area we wanted to try out. Re-entry was easy enough with me holding his yak, he faced away from it and boosted his self up and into the yak, then he held my yak while I did the same.

Here is my question, if you are in deep enough water where you can't stand and turtle and no one is around to help, how do you get back in the yak without flipping it? Ideally one would prefer to always have a fishing partner, but that is not always feasible.

I expect this topic has been discussed to death on here, I just have not found any of the threads yet.

Thanks
Eddie

Get on the side with your arms across the seat. Pull yourself up and across the seat, then swing one leg at a time in and roll over. Ease back into the seat.

Thanks for the replies and link. Really helps to visualize how it is supposed to be performed. I've only turtled once and that was 15 seconds into my first yak fishing trip. Pleased to say it has not been habit forming. :)

However prior to heading out yesterday my buddy and I were talking about it and I realized I should probably post up here and find out before I need to know.

Thanks Again!!!

Notice the leash on his paddle, one less thing to worry about, especially in the wind and tide.

Does any one have a video of someone doing a reentry fully geared? IE Anchor rods leashed up bait and other gear on board.

Here's some good information that Mythman posted in the BTB area...

http://www.topkayaker.net/Articles/Inst ... eFloat.htm" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Like I believe anyone who's gone BTB, I've turtled in the deep churning water.
Much more difficult for me to get my big butt back in the yak...
This should help!

God Bless,
