2014 CCKF DFW Trail Stop #1 Grapevine Lake 01.25.14

Post by Papa Chops »

With less than good conditions, leading into yesterday’s tournament on Grapevine Lake, we had 16 entrants show up the first official tournament of the very first year of Capital City Kayak Fishing’s Dallas/Ft. Worth’s Kayak Bass Fishing Trail. A few of the faces were familiar, but for the most part, these were relatively new faces to our current scene. Capital City Kayak Fishing is running 49 strong after, only our 2nd tournament of 2014! We are thankful to our Sponsors, Members, Supporters, and we appreciate the interested tournament anglers who have participated in their one CCKF event, free of becoming a Full Member. We hope you have enjoyed yourself! CCKF couldn’t have begged for better weather conditions, to host a tournament on, in the middle of January. So, on 01.15.14, we were hosting on Grapevine Lake, just outside of Grapevine, Texas. We were lent a hand from our new friend at the Grapevine Parks and Recreation Department, Peter Doyles…It was a pleasure to meet you, and thank you for all your support and hard work! The weather cooperated, but the fish didn’t, our anglers were stood up against horrible post-front conditions, little to no wind, high-bluebird skys, ice-covered coves and shorelines, and an incoming temperature swing bringing us back up to 65 degrees by 2 or 3 pm. By the time the judging was finished, there was approximately 4 or 5 catfish caught, 3-5 Shad, and ONE largemouth bass. In this scenario, where only one person catches a fish, it is our policy to award ALL the payout money and big bass sidepot to the winner of 1st Place, which also lands him the BIG BASS Side Pot too. ATX Trail standard, Adam “Chubbs” Hansen arrived at Meadowmere Park to Register after everyone else had left, he launched at Meadowmere and spent his day searching from there. At the end of the day, he had one 19.25” Largemouth, which ended up landing him a payout that he couldn’t have previously conceived! Adam Hansen ended up taking $725 in Entry Fees and Big Bass Side Pot, Smith Optics ChromaPop Sunglasses and Swag Pack, and Grande Bass Trophy Hunter Baits. Due to this being our first event in Dallas, we decided to try and send everybody home with something. Thanks to Matt Hall at Smith Optics, Vince Borges at Phenix Rods, Allen/Jay/Gareth at Boca Bearings, Mike Vanscoy at Lonestar Beer, Jerry Shinn and Grande Bass, and Denise Smith at Yeti Coolers we were able to have a very fun, high-quality raffling session! Finally, I’d like to thank Marsha and everybody at the Joe’s Crab Shack in Grapevine, Texas for all their hospitality. We look forward to seeing even more of you DFW Competitors on Lake Lewisville, next month, on 02.15.14. Registration will be at Hidden Cove Marina from 6am-7am. The Non-Members Captains Meeting will start at 5:30am. Just look for the Supernova Fishing Lights and CCKF lighting the way into 2014!
