Out of nowhere my wife asked if we could get away for a weekend without the kids and go kayaking. I kayak fish regularly, but she is pretty green. The only request she has is that there must be good food in the area.

Im looking for a nice place to spend a couple days on the water with someone less experienced. Maybe an easy river float or a quiet lake. Something within a 2-3 hours of McKinney with some decent food and lodging.

Any suggestions?

The Inks Lake area comes to mind. I enjoy the lakes there really well.

I live on South Padre Island, and I kayak all the time on the bay. It's very safe (most areas in the bay are only 2 feet deep) , clear and if you launch at the south point you can kayak with the dolphins. Fishing is excellent for speckled trout and Redfish.
