Iced coffee

Post by d_harp »

I love iced coffee, especially when the hot days come

here's my favorite recipe:

INGREDIENTS:
1 cup coffee, at room temperature
2 tablespoons half and half*, or more, to taste
FOR THE SIMPLE SYRUP
1/2 cup sugar
1 cup water
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
DIRECTIONS:
FOR THE SIMPLE SYRUP: Combine sugar and 1 cup water in a medium saucepan over medium heat, stirring until the sugar has dissolved. Let cool completely and stir in vanilla extract; set aside in the refrigerator until ready to serve.
Serve coffee over ice with half and half and simple syrup, adding 1 teaspoon at a time, to taste.
Note: I make my coffee ONLY in BPA-free coffee makers, cause I strongly believe it affects taste as much as health

this post becomes on topic because it's filled with fishing buddies, who also bicycle together on a regular Sunday morning crack-of-dawn ride when not fishing.

We sprint 7 mi from Alamo Heights to the Alamodome, then break for coffee at Pearl on our way back uptown.
In the summer heat, I always get an iced cortado, and probably a banana muffin (can always justify the potassium).
Except for Tad on the left, everyone here fishes together.
Lou and Stevo are facing the camera - Lou frequently brings his Turkish coffee on our fishing trips, and Steve roasts his own green coffee beans, and always roasts a fishing-trip load.

If you haven't tried it before, try cold brew coffee. I use the same proportions of coffee to water, but just mix them together and let it steep in the fridge for about 12 hours (I use a mason jar to brew). Pour it through a filter and you're set. I find the cold brew keeps out some of the bitterness of hot brewed coffee.
