Building a life time pit.
We'll I finally burnt through my store bought pit for the last time. I decided it was time to build my own. Thankfully I work for a company that specializes in offshore work. We had a left over piece of 24" hammer drive casing 3/4" thick. With the owners blessing I took the scrap piece and started to build a pit. I made the doors from 1/4" to keep them light enough to lift by hand. Also this pit is very tall. I hate bending over with smoke in my eyes so I made it to fit me and my family. Here it is almost complete. Won't be long and I will have some cooking vids up.

I put a vent on each end. I still need to fab up the stack and weld it on. Some other small items like vent handles and the front shelf mount. A good friend brought me two beautiful pieces of cypress from Louisiana to use for work shelves in front of the doors. This pit goes 1000lbs. Or more and worst case I will be replacing the end caps and stand before I burn through this bad boy.

Let us know when you burn through this one.

That looks real nice and all, but I'm not seeing 1,000 pounds of steel there. Did you mean 100?

That is 3/4" thick steel! 100 lbs? that pipe is over 150/lbs per foot so Id say its well over 100 lbs!TimmyT140 wrote:That looks real nice and all, but I'm not seeing 1,000 pounds of steel there. Did you mean 100?

talk about overkill, lol. awesome pit! like that you thought to use lighter material for the doors and later added the lip, it will help keep water out and heat in.
