Beer Bread

Post by Mrs. Let's Go »

This is my "go to" bread recipe when we do chili in the winter - I'm too busy for anything more elaborate!

3 c self-rising flour
1/3 c sugar
12 oz can of beer (works best if never been refrigerated)

Mix ingredients into big sticky lump. Grease loaf pan with spray shortening or spread solid shortening or butter around with a paper towel. Place dough into greased pan, bake at 350 for 45 minutes. Cook time may vary depending on your loaf pan & oven.

Optional step:
Pour as much of a stick of melted butter that will run over the top and down the sides without overflowing; bake 15 minutes longer. Let is sit in the pan for at least 10 minutes to soak up all the butter before serving. You will need more than one loaf for more than four or five people.

Addins:
Jalepeno bread -
Mix in 1/2 of sharp cheddar cheese and 1/4 c jalepenos

Garlic herb bread-
Mix in 2 TBLS chopped garlic and 1 tsp each of your favorite dried herbs

Raisin bread -
Mix in 1/4 c raisins and 2 TBLS cinnamon/sugar mixture

That stuff is great. My wife makes it all the time.
Sometimes she uses "pear" beer which makes for a really nice sweet bread.

Pear Beer

I gotta try that, thanks. I do a lot of community things where food is involved - Pear Beer Bread would really go over big around here.
