Private Lessons?

Anyone have recommendations for private Fly Fishing Lessons in the Houston area for beginners? I have just basic knowledge (prob less) and only a few freshwater trips' experience. I am going to Belize in about a month and want to get a crash course of private lessons before the trip.

I'll be staying in Placencia, Belize in Mid March and am also looking into guides to book. Anyone have any recommendations for this as well? Blue Horizon http://bluehorizonbelize.com/ looks like a decent operation. I'm staying at Roberts Grove and believe they also do charters as well.

Try in the fly fishing section over on Texas Fishing Forum. Rex over there can probably recommend someone, if he isn't available himself. He and his daughter are both certified casting instructors.

ino, there's really nothing about fly fishing that warrants off-water instruction.
The money is probably better spent by taking a guide trip. Just check up front with him about your intentions, and ask whether he's comfortable giving casting instructions to a beginner on the trip.
Likewise, I think mysticizing fly fishing has been a racket since the 1980s, but that's me.

Both my daughters were fly-fishing before they were 10, and both can out-fish any man.
They never received off-water instruction, and only occasional on-water pointers.
Of course, like their dad, they're probably not the type to take to instruction.

I know you'll find people who will pony up to laud casting instruction results .
But remember, on the water, the fishing is always more important than the casting.

Next weekend is troutfest in New Braunfuels website http://www.grtu.org/troutfest/tftx2018- ... _schedule/ I've never been but looks like you could get a lot of instructions for free, follow that with one on one or get a guided trip chasing reds to work on casting and dealing with wind.....Note I'm just starting out so certainly not an expert

If you are a total beginner, and for whatever reason, don't have convenient access to a pro instructor, I would be happy to assist you in the basics. I have, over the past many years taught a number of guys and gals how to successfully put a fly in front of fish.

I am quite serious in offering my help. Understand, however, that along with the attractive free price, you will also end up with all of my bad habits. And, that is probably true of taking lessons from any non pro.
