Fish finder for my kayak

Post by Shawnp20 »

Hey everyone, looking for some input on a few different fish finders. All are portable hand helds. I'll start with the cheaper first and go to the more expensive. If anyone has any opinions on any of the devices please do not hesitate to share. Also if I didn't list one that you recommend please give the name and drop a little info! So here is the few I'm looking at so far! I really like #6 so if anyone has any info on it that'd be great!

I am no expert.
But I wouldn't recommend to use any fish finder that involve using my IPhone when I am on water. The salt air go through the open ports and will corrode the phone from the inside.

I agree. Get a good sonar without GPS and use your phone/navionics to get your gps and the sonar to find structure/fish.
There are some sub $200 units out there. Some with GPS.

I like mostly staying in saltwater side. Primary in BTB and secondary in the marsh.

Again, I am no expert but the most popular ones (saw most kayakers used):
1. Lowrance Hook4X ($189.99)
2. Hummingbird Piranha MAX4 ($99.99)
3. Lowrance Hook3X ($89.99)

YouTube has lots of DYI video to show how to mount them.

I like to have my hands free so I can steer the kayak and hold the fishing rod. Instead of holding my IPhone.
Good luck.
