Houston area fly-fishing

Post by Houstonflyfishing »

The Lake Houston Whitebass and crappie run has kicked off. We're catching some decent male White's so far with some female's in the mix, along with some fiesty yellow bass. Crappie have been stacked up once you find them and we've been having some every cast days.

The urban carping scene has also been good with some aggressive rising Grass carp taking elk hair caddis or anything green. Common Carp are also out in full force and have been found in some decent pods. Taking well placed bead chain nymphs.

This rain got them a little frisky. First only Yellow bass were eating but I watched schools of White Bass go by boiling water pushing on big female's. As I'm there a front blew in and right after it passed they went off. Whitebass started feeding and one after another I stuck White Bass and yellow bass a few giving my 2wt a run for its money. The run is on an the females have shown up.
