Saltwater Crab Fly

Post by kickingback »

Made this one today. I keep seeing these silly little crabs float by my kayak when I am fishing the lights at the causeway. I think this will get a bite hopefully.

Local fly fishing guide has been using crab flies in tan and black.

Thanks for the tip. I am using this site to make some good imitations of crab and shrimp. Lots of good pics to use. http://txmarspecies.tamug.edu/crablist.cfm

The hook on this one makes it almost buoyant. It will hit the water and float when dry. It will sink on retrieve and stop and only sink at about 1 ft every 6 secs. Look good in my test. It is usually on the pause and a slow fall that they hit it.

Making one out of toothpicks glued side to side flat with epoxy coat to hold it tight then will shape it and add legs and claws. Will post when done.
