Had some scraps leftover from tying flesh flies for (hopefully) next year's trip to Alaska, so I wrapped some simple redfish flies. The eyes are plastic so the fly will hover over weeds. Going to try them as the cold weather clears the marsh waters a bit.

I am not sure how these will work, but I had fun tying these craft fur minnows with 3D eyes.

Hello everyone, new here to the forum and new to fly fishing and tying in general. This was my first attempt at tying a fly so of course had to grab a picture of it before trying it out in the salt today! Unfortunately no fish, but it was a great time nonetheless. Looking forward to getting better and trying new combinations and new flies. The combinations and possibilities really do seem endless.

rjohnson,

Those will work great. I tie something similar, but much uglier, for use in the winter. Mine are about 4" long tied on a #1 xl streamer hook and without the eyes. I think in winter bigger flies are better. I think the fish eat bigger bait and less often.

"Ugly Flies" are my specialty. The red fish don't care.

Thanks Salty. Tried to make it look like a frog using the feathers as legs. Hopefully pulling it back will make the "legs" go in and out as i pull and stop.

Nice flies Puck.

Felt it was missing something so I added a large cavity plastic bead as a head. Should give it a more "chug" sound as it is popped.

Steve Farrar Baitfish. Pool tested and looked really good. Swam perfectly, looked alive and suspended with a very slow sink rate.

Made this today...
Shrink wrap tubing (heat molded on wood dowel) stuffed with foam cylinder (cut with sharpened tube), used heated needle to pierce center and insert small tubing 3/4 way back from front, painted acrylic paints, sharpie markings, doll eyes, 5 minute epoxy.
It's spongy to the fish when they hit it and it will slide up the line after bit when fish tries to shake the hook thus not destroying the lure. I can change the trailer as needed or no trailer but just hook. Thanks for looking.
