Work buddy asked me to tie him something for bass,
so I tied my first Upside Down Frog.
I've tied many of the UD frog, that is one fun fly to fish you can throw it anywhere and it will get through.

I'm pretty sure I recall you posting some of those, D,
and as I remember they were pretty nice looking!
I hope to tie a few up for myself.

Here are some of my recent experiments. I'm working on a Cased Caddis for the Guadalupe:

And my first attempts at Pheasant Tail Nymphs:

those are nice looking - think we all need to have a meeting at the Guadalupe River for some fishing - camping with dinner cooked over mesquite wood and then all the stories that can be told and flies that can be tied.

Lately there has been some great Caddis hatches on the Guadalupe. As a result, I spent a couple hours this evening restocking my box with my go to Caddis patterns.

I didn't tie these today but with these three flies I feel I can conquer the world. They are not pretty or difficult to tie but red fish like to eat them; that I can assure you of.

Top-----Mullet imitation. Tied on a #2 Mustad Streamer hook. White is buck tail hair. Olive is EP fiber. A clump of hair on the bottom and a bigger clump of EP on top. Done.

Middle------Shrimpy Thing. Tied on a # 6 Mustad O'Shaughnessy. Craft fur tail and a poorly spun bunch of deer hair. It give the hook enough buoyancy to suspend and fish it in 8" of water or less.

Bottom----------Crab. Also tied on the #6 Mustad O'Shaughesssy. Craft fur tail with segments of yarn for the body. I infuse Hard as Nails into the yarn when finished to make the body hard. Mini dumbbell eyes for winter or deeper water fishing and no weight and a smaller body for summer shallower water fishing.

I just returned from a two week Winter fishing trip to Aransas Pass and caught fish on all of these flies.

John, that's a good lesson for me and maybe others to see that you don't have to come up with exotic, difficult to tie patterns to catch fish.

Nice flies! Are those Lunch Money's? I've tied a few but haven't fished them yet.

I love the lunch money fly. Catches me lots of bass and has great action in the water. Haven't tried it on trout yet, but j hear it works well also. Matt Bennett, the originator, is a good guy and also ties some nice salt stuff for me.

Nice! I love that fly also, but I tie mine with rubber legs as well as the hackle. I also experimented a little with a cdc hackle.

Tied these up for the fly swap. Bunch of little Rio Getter flies. This thing is irresistible to sunfish.

Stryker,

Those flies will kill on the Black Drum. Cast right to their noses and barely moved. Then hang on!

I might have to tie some up on a little bigger plated hook and try them out next time I head out. Never thought of making them bigger but why not, right?

I think those would work well on bass, crappie, blue gills and carp

They're my go to sunfish fly. Work so well I usually don't use anything else unless I feel like throwing some top water stuff. I've caught some smaller bass on them before too. Still haven't gotten my first carp on fly.
