Day trip from Rochelles

Post by imaoldmanyoungsalt »

My friend and coworker, Josh, and I made a trip up the Brazos from Rochelles today. We started fishing right away and only ended up going about 2 miles upstream. We caught a lot of fish today and several species including largemouth, smallmouth, spotted, striped, and sand bass. Also caught several drum and a catfish. Didn't take many pics today but here's a few.

Josh's personal best smallmouth

Right after Josh landed his smallie, I hooked one about a pound larger and lost it to a strong head shake or I wouldve had my personal best as well. It was a really good day on the water. Most of our fish were caught on a small squarebill crankbait in crayfish. A few came on a small white one.

Thanks guys. It was definitely a good day. Even the heat was pretty mild til around 2 pm which is when we headed home. I forgot to mention, most of our fish were caught in the stronger current and pretty shallow. Water temps were around 80-82 degrees in the slower moving pools dipping down to 78 or so in the swifter water.
