Nasty out there

Post by Kirk B. »

45 to 50 degrees and overcast/misting rain, but you go when you can.
This is an old, small lake, and it's heavily silted in, so the average depth is about 6 feet.
I saw a couple of fish on the depth finder, but nothing wanted to bite.
Maybe after lunch.ImageImage

Warm front came through here at the coast. Kind of humid and warmish now, but it was a foggy morning and then very low ceilings thereafter. Just enough sun was getting through to stimulate a bass feeding frenzy late. Shad were hugging the shoreline and bass were coming out of the water attacking here and there the Little bait fish. I tried to get on them with various flies. A unweighted Steve Farrar shad pattern finally got one stuffed looking 1.5# bass, then I hung up the fly on a submerged log. I tried other patterns, lost two more flies and gave up.

Fishing is fun and frustrating at the same time.

It never did clear up. At one point, I could see the hi-way bisecting the lake, but not the cars on it. I guess that's why the call it, yada yada yadaImage. At least I got some exercise.
Supposed to be warmer tomorrow. I think I'll hit the Cypress trees and shoreline tomorrow with flies, and maybe make a mess of bluegill. Image
