Conroe
Conroe
If you ever wanted to fish Conroe -- right now is the time. Weather is awesome next few days and all motorized traffic is forbidden.
For those who is unaware -- Conroe is bulkheaded, which means every boat wake gets reflected multiple times. There are tons of boats usually on the lake, which means normally you bob in those wakes whole day like turd in the ice-hole util your sides start hurting.
I fished it today (half-day) -- it was awesome. No wakes (with exception of few made by law enforcement), no wind. Very hot . Got few crappies. They seem to be scattered, didn't get more than 2 on any one pile I found.

Re: Conroe
I like fishing that point! Thanks for the update. May try to head out there for a few panfish myself.
Re: Conroe
Nice. If either of you, or anyone else, plans to go there tomorrow, please invite me. I'm not in The Woodlands and have been wanting to explore Lake Conroe for a while.

Re: Conroe
Hey Crusader...where did you hear that motorized boats are not allowed and why? I can only find info about 2016 ban.
I got to get my license still...lol
I will try tomorrow night for all nighter into the early morning on Tuesday. Love fishing the underwater dock lights for bass at night and drop a light myself near structure for some crappie. I launch around 9 pm and fish until 10 to noon the next morning usually.

Got to boat ramp, it is blocked by a sign "lake is closed" or something to that effect. Checked online in google -- it produced bunch of links "motorized activities prohibited". Tbh, I didn't check the date on those articles. LEOs drove past me few times (looks like they were busy escorting some big boats across the lake) but either decided not to bother with me or my understanding of the finer points of the ban was correct.
Besides, what is the point of running me off a glass-like water? Fear that I may hit submerged log while moving on the plane at my top speed of 4.1mph and fall out?
Nice plan for summer, btw... Escape heat and go after night feeding fish. I need to try it

Re: Conroe
Thanks, love night fishing as the water is usually calmer and it is quite cooler than during the afternoon.
Found it on Facebook..... https://www.facebook.com/SanJacintoRiverAuthority/
Thanks!
I found these sites but they don't mention kayaks. The one above has a video by the city council there and they said kayaks are allowed. (About 1:20 from the end of video)

Re: Conroe
As of 48 minutes ago (10:00 am 09-05-17) the SJRA has opened the lake to recreational traffic.
kickingback, I didn't see any video by the Conroe City Council. Don't know if it has been removed, or if I have to sign on to Facebook to see it (I don't do social media). But if it was indeed the Conroe City Council that said that kayaks were permitted, it would have been invalid information. The city has no authority over the lake; that lies with the SJRA. I did not go to the lake and attempt to launch a kayak; I merely passed along the SJRA's directive, which stated that it was closed to all recreational traffic, and that the only vessels permitted on the lake would be performing official duties. I wouldn't want to see someone fined, and their fishing day cut short, due to misinformation. You have ranted about universal governmental incompetence in the past; I would have to agree with you 100% when it comes to the Conroe City Council. They represent the stereotype of the greedy, small town petty politicians to a tee, and I am always amazed at the quality of the councilmembers that city elects.

Re: Conroe
It was the SJRA Facebook page and the staff of SRJA were the ones that said it and like I said, it was in the video of 5 members standing in front of a camera and stating that kayaks were fine.
Sorry you are not "connected" like the rest of us. I told you. Sorry you don't believe others. IT doesn't matter now as the lake is open to limited traffic and speeds.
Good day. I'm done trying to help.
