Lake Conroe Anyone?

Looking for someone to fish with on Lake Conroe. I Just moved to the lake a few months ago and I am much more accustomed to salt water so am interested in some tips on best methods for the lake and hope to meet some local fishing buddies. I would love to target Hybrids but will fish for anything with a lure or even go catfishing. Thanks in advance if anyone is down.

I fish Conroe but usually only on weekdays to avoid the weekend warriors. You can do some crappie catching at the bridges and trees near Scott's Ridge. Lots of structure around the lake for them to hold close to as well. Bass and cats are great everywhere. I normally target crappie most of time but go for the bluegills now and then and they are everywhere as well. I usually take my jon boat but recently bought a new Hobie yak.
I haven't put my kayak in the lake yet but will tomorrow evening for a night trip near Cagle. Hope to see you out there!

Thanks for the tips Kickingback. I wouldn't fish the weekends either given the choice but it's the most available for me like so many others. Good luck on your trip. Maybe we will run into each other sometime.

if you get out early mornings, a small rattle trap or a 4" shad crank pulled steadily at 2.5 - 3mph will get you some very large striper.

That's the stuff I'm trying to get into, I went out this morning and trolled a deep crank and caught a real nice LMB like 5#s at least . Will try to post pic if I can figure it out.

I normally fish the Scott's Ridge area, as well. However, I have been wanting to fish the southern end of the lake at evening time. Specifically, the Inland Discount Marine docks. Rush Creek is right there, too. Any of you guys had success there?

These posts always make me smile. I live ten minutes from Lake Conroe and never fish it. Would be a whole lot cheaper if I did....

I also live in the area but have only fished the lake a few times. I try to avoid the crowds on weekends, too many idiots. I hear good things about Scott's ridge, but it gets crowded and I worry about my rig parked there all day.
I like Sam Houston State park had some real action up there last week. Image

I'd be interested in fishing with you on Conroe or Gibbons Creek ( heck I'm down to fish just about anywhere), have fished both mostly for bass. Let me know when you want to go!!!

The more questionable types will spend the day over in the swimming area, so I wouldn't worry about it too much.
Your alternative would be FM1375, south on Stubblefield Rd, and drive until the road stops at the water. You are now in the shallows and closer to the underwater trees(still standing), and straight across from the boat ramp at Scotts Ridge.

I'm moving further north and will probably be fishing conroe more often. Im assuming the scotts ridge launch is kayak friendly? Lots of skiers, jet or otherwise?

Scott's ridge is very good. I've heard some have had issues with people taking stuff from truck beds but never had an issue myself. It's a decent paddle to the bridge, but plenty of fish in the cove and protected from South and West winds pretty well.

Crappie are stacked up following the shad around the lake deep with the cold weather. Find the bait and you will find MANY crappie! I got a limit of crappie on Friday morning in just 4 hours. Good luck!

Those pics of guys catching fat largemouths in January make my head spin -- because I grew up in Maine, where bass ponds have a foot or two of ice on them that time of year.

Is it warm enough in January that they are active in the shallows, even going after topwater? I'm probably going to have a chance to fish the lake in late March, and I'm hoping for that kind of fishing -- early morning topwater, which you can't beat with a stick :)
