...and it will hurt like.....

When I was a kid, we were playing with crawfish we caught in the creek. I found a 3" grasshopper and put its head next to the crawfish's pincher. I thought that the crawfish would grab the grasshopper and clip it in half.

Not so much.

The grasshopper put its mouth over the tip of the crawfish's pincher and I heard a loud......CRUNCH!! The grasshopper's jaws were so powerful, it crunched through the pincher tip like it was a saltine cracker. The tip of the pincher was gone. :o

habanerojooz illustrates a good point. Herbivores can bite like a SOB!. After a particular experience on a high point with extreme prominence (thousands of feet) relative to the surrounding terrain regarding some apparently very angry migrating lady bugs I seem to have developed a bit of a phobia regarding lady bugs. If it eats plants for a living rule numero uno is watch out for its chompers!

Grasshoppers were my grandfathers favorite "perch" (bream) bait and we caught a ton of them using grasshoppers and worms dug in the calf pens.

I haven't figured it out either. But this wasn't like a wasp or hornet's nest worth of insects. This was insects in the hundreds of thousands crammed into a tiny area. An area which I had to pass through.

Maybe it was a breeding colony or ladybug orgy. Did you feel the need for a shower after the had their way with you?
